Our funding

Family Matters obtains its funding from a number of main sources; statutory grants, charitable foundations, and fund raising. The Charity is solely dependant upon these funds for its existence. Much of the funding is ‘restricted' in that it can only be used for the activity for which it is intended.

Although our operational area covers a large portion of SE London and all of Kent down to Ashford (in time we intend to extend to the rest of Kent) we receive statutory money from only a few boroughs. This funding is always under threat as it stands in competition with many other charitable groups and activities.

We have deliberately pursued a policy of not being reliant on a single source of funding for our existence as this can easily become a threat to security and operational independence. Instead we seek funding from as many sources as we can find time to canvass. In the past we have received funding from The Smiths Charities, Children's Fund, Help a London Child, Children in Need, Comic relief, Awards for All, The Big Lottery and Urban Regeneration Fund to name but a few. The activity of fundraising is a time consuming and frustrating one and slows the progress of the charity as nothing can be done without the requisite funds or indeed the time invested in getting those funds.

If you feel you could help with fundraising in any way or you have innovative ideas the General Manager would be more than happy to hear from you.

Donations are always gratefully received.
